Joy Beverley Smith, a woman of family, faith and hard work, is the youngest of five siblings from a devoted Christian family, born in London, United Kingdom. Her parents brought her back to their homeland of Jamaica at the age of eleven months, as returning residents. Smith was brought up in the rural areas of Jamaica, where she also attended basic and primary school. At the age of 19, her parents decided to send her back to the UK. Smith took it upon herself to pursue higher education at Lewisham College. From there, she received a certification from the London Chamber of Commerce in NVQ Level 11 Business Administration. Having the pleasure of working for the Lewisham Council as a Passenger Attendant, Smith assisted with the elderly and mentally challenged teens to and from day care daily. After a two-week vacation in Florida, she decided to migrate to the USA in 1996.
Smith previously worked at Memorial Regional Hospital for over 14 years as a radiology office clerk, assisting the radiologist in the healthcare system. Furthermore, she received certifications in culinary arts from the Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Miramar, Florida. With her cooking skills and certifications, Smith became a business owner back in her parents’ homeland of Jamaica after completing a vigorous internship at the Sandals Hotel, Montego Bay, Jamaica. She currently works as a Ramp Agent and Cabin Service Lead at the Fort Lauderdale - Hollywood International Airport, where she is the current Union Shop Steward for hundreds of employees of said employer. Also, she has the honor of being a licensed public notary for over ten years.
Smith has two wonderful adult children; her son Andre’, who is 31, who has blessed her with two beautiful granddaughters, GG and Gabby, and her daughter Jessica, who is 21 and a college student. When she is not busy serving her community, Smith enjoys music, cooking for her family, friends and others, and being the joyous person everyone admires.
Lastly, Smith managed to purchase her very first home in 2002, in the then unincorporated area of Hollywood, Florida, which is now the incorporated city of West Park, Florida. After 19 years in this newly developed city, Smith decided to become a servant to her community by running for Commissioner Seat 3, which she won, and will continue to put her COMMUNITY FIRST!
